Railway Set

Introduced 2024

The BRIO 36036 65th Anniversary Train Set celebrates 65 years of BRIO railway with a colourful wooden railway inspired by the brand’s classic designs. Featuring a traditional BRIO train, wooden track, station, figures and accessories, the set combines nostalgic styling with modern BRIO World play. Released in 2023 to mark the anniversary of the first BRIO wooden railway sets, the 36036 is a distinctive standalone set that also provides plenty of possibilities for combining with other BRIO railway sets and accessories.

We really like the 65th Anniversary Set, although we think there is one weakness in the original track plan that feels slightly overlooked. As a complete railway set on its own, it’s enjoyable, but perhaps not one of BRIO’s most interesting layouts to build and play with.

Where we think this set really shines is as an expansion pack with a bonus dose of BRIO nostalgia. You get a useful selection of track, including switching and ascending pieces, together with the colourful classic-style train that gives the set its distinctive 65th anniversary character.

We’ve found the track selection particularly useful when combining the 36036 with other BRIO sets, which is why it features in so many of our Track Adventures layouts. If you’re looking for a set that can add useful pieces to an existing railway while also giving you something a little more special to collect, there’s a lot to like here.
